  14. DESCRIPTION

  16. Rascal is an advanced dial-up session manager for users who
  17. need a single reliable solution for keeping their connection alive.
  18.  
  19. Rascal monitors your dial-up sessions to make sure that you
  20. stay connected.  It does this by simulating network activity to
  21. fool idling detectors and by restoring the connection if it is lost.
  22. When a connection is made or lost, Rascal can notify you of
  23. it with an audio alert.
  24.  
  25. Rascal also gives you information about your dial-up session,
  26. including the name of the dial-up server, the IP address of the
  27. current connection, a calculation of your monthly connection
  28. costs so far, and a time log of how long you've been online for
  29. the current session, day, week, month, and year.

  31. If you are a more demanding user, RascalPro is made for you.
  32. In addition to the features of Rascal, the professional version
  33. adds the ability to schedule when you want RascalPro to start
  34. monitoring, stop monitoring, or release your connection.  You
  35. can also define batch processes that should start when a
  36. connection is made or lost, and you have the ability to log these
  37. events and more to a file for later reference.

  44. This application anchors its icon near the clock in the system tray 
  45. which, by default, is located at the bottom right of your desktop.  
  46. You may invoke the application menu by right-clicking on the icon.

  51. - v2.1  on 1998-06-01: Added command line access to allow remote 
  52.   and batch control of dialup sessions.  Fixed a bug that caused 
  53.   the application to freeze under some configurations of Windows 
  54.   modems and drivers.
  55. - v2.0a on 1998-02-19: Eliminated the 16 DUN session limit and made 
  56.   the monthly time log properly wrap when the year changes.
  57. - v2.0  on 1997-06-22: Updated installation procedure and package 
  58.   information, overhauled the product, and added time and fees 
  59.   tracking.
  60. - v1.6  on 1996-11-19: Added connection monitoring time-out support.
  61. - v1.5c on 1996-11-03: Fixed the "Do not dial-up first" feature.

  83. Close the application if it is currently running, then run the 
  84. SetupRascal.exe file and follow the instructions.

  89. Close the application if it is currently running, then install 
  90. the new version on top of the old one, unless otherwise specified 
  91. in this file.

  94. UNINSTALLATION
  95.  
  96. Close the application if it is currently running.  Click the Windows 
  97. "Start" button, and select "Settings", then "Control Panel".  
  98. Double-click the "Add/Remove Programs item".  Proceed by 
  99. double-clicking the line corresponding to this product and follow 
  100. the instructions.

  102. Note that configuration files, generally with a ".dat" extension, 
  103. and registration files, namely "Registration Form.txt", may be 
  104. created by the application and will not be deleted for your 
  105. convenience in case you wish to refer to them at a later date.  
  106. Delete these files manually if you do not want them.
